A Reflection on Philip Larkin’s Parents

Poetry Image

In the silence of the family home,
Echoes of past conversations roam,
A father stern, a mother mild,
Their shadows linger on the child.

Unspoken words, a quiet strife,
Marked the cadence of their life,
In the garden, in the hall,
Their presence loomed, both great and small.

He watched them with a careful eye,
As years and memories drifted by,
The smiles, the frowns, the silent tears,
Shaped his thoughts and fueled his fears.

Now in his verses, they remain,
A tribute to their love and pain,
Through poetic lines, their story told,
A legacy of hearts grown old.
