In fields of gold she danced with grace,
A maiden pure in sunlit place,
Her laughter echoed through the glen,
Unaware of what lay then.
The earth did tremble, shadows grew,
A chariot of darkness flew,
Hades reached with hands so cold,
And took the maiden from the world.
Beneath the earth where shadows play,
Persephone was led away,
To realms where light could never gleam,
She wept and longed for heaven’s beam.
Yet seasons turn and so did fate,
A bond was struck to mitigate,
Her time now split ‘twixt dark and light,
Her dual reign, both day and night.
